Le voci sulla sua partenza iniziarono a circolare quando il rinnovo del contratto di Gustin nel febbraio 2022 lo firmò solo per un altro anno invece dei soliti accordi pluriennali che aveva accettato prima.
Prima dell'ultimo episodio in assoluto, Gustin si è aperto aEWsulla sua decisione di andarsene, dicendo "Sembrava che fosse ora".
"Molte persone volevano che arrivassimo a 10 stagioni", ha continuato, "ma nella mia mente abbiamo fatto 10 anni - era il 2013 quando sono stato scelto per il ruolo di Barry Allen, e abbiamo finito nel 2023. Prima che Grant Gustin decidesse di andarsene e la cancellazione fosse confermata, lo showrunner della serie Eric Wallace aveva in programma una nona stagione più lunga, e anche il suo team stava già pensando alla decima stagione.
Parlando conI nerd del colore, Wallace ha spiegato come la notizia lo abbia costretto ad apportare alcuni grandi cambiamenti perQuello di Flashtratto finale:
"Inizialmente avevo un piano di due anni per la serie per le stagioni nove e dieci. Ed è culminato con questo incredibile 200esimo episodio, un evento emozionante spettacolare e meraviglioso che doveva accadere. Questo è stato prima che ricevessimo la notizia che sarebbe successo sarebbe stata la nostra ultima stagione. Quella sarebbe stata una nona stagione, solo che mi sono trovato nella posizione di dire, 'Wow, ho un sacco di storie per 40 episodi!' che ora vado a stipare in 13.

Sfortunatamente, non doveva essere così, il che è un vero peccato per la formazione della Justice LeagueCrisi sulle terre infiniteaveva così tanto potenziale per far avanzare l'Arrowverse in qualcosa di nuovo.
